When John Smallwood first asked me to design a book to celebrate the first 25 years of Habitat for Humanity, he stressed the story's nobility, but also the need to tell it in a way that would bring the reader close enough to feel the grit and leave no doubt as to what it takes (and what it feels like) to work together to build these humble, home sweet homes around the globe.
